Pork Empanada

Hello Mamsh! I hope you are having a great day. Today, I have a new recipe for everyone. I guess not everyone knows about this food. Below is an information about it.

An empanada is a type of baked or fried turnover consisting of pastry and filling, common in Latin American and Filipino cultures. The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar, and literally translates as “enbreaded“, that is, wrapped or coated in bread.

Here are the ingredients:

For Empanada Dough:

2 cups all purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
a pinch of fine salt
butter, cold and solid
1/3 cup of cold water

For the filling:

1/2 kilo ground pork
1 medium size carrots,diced
1 medium size potato,diced
green peas
raisins
1 medium size onion,chopped
3 gloves garlic,minced
1 tbsp oyster sauce
chicken cubes

For the dough:

Mix all the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl starting with the flour, sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix well using a whisk or fork .Cut the butter into small pieces and add in the mixing bowl together with the other ingredients.Add water gradually and mix it thoroughly until a dough is formed.Divide the dough into pieces.If u have a rolling pin,flatten and try to make it like a round shape.

Filling:

In a pan, put some oil and once heated saute onion and garlic until golden brown. Add the ground pork or chicken.Mix together and then add the carrot after a few minutes add the potatoes and let it simmer. Add in oyster sauce,add the raisins and stir.Once the filling is cooked, let it cool and set aside.

Steps:

Arrange and use a spoon to put the filling in the dough. fold the dough then press the edges or you can use a mold press.In the deep pan, heat up some oil and deep fry the empanada. Then once it is golden brown strain it.Then plate it.
